Biographical Note

American composer Harold Rome (1908-1993) wrote comedy songs and lyrics for a musical version of Gone With the Wind presented in Japanese in Tokyo under the name Scarlett by the Toho Company in 1970. A second version in English, Gone With the Wind: the Epic Musical, was produced by Harold Fielding in 1972 in London and performed for a year at the Drury Lane Theatre. For this production, Harold Rome again served as the composer of the music and lyrics. In 1973, Fielding brought the musical to the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera with music and lyrics by Harold Rome. The musical was revised and produced again in 1976.
