Series 2
Subject files, 1965-1995
Boxes 5 - 9

Scope and Content Note

The series consists of materials relating to organizations associated with Neighbor's Network and hate groups monitored by Neighbor's Network from 1965-1995, with the bulk of material between 1985-1995. Materials with earlier dates are mainly news articles collected by Neighbor's Network. The subject files may include correspondence, clippings, newsletters, fliers and other printed material. Affiliated organizations files document Neighbor's Network's relationships with similar organizations such as the Center for Democratic Renewal (CDR) and the Southern Poverty Law Center's Klan Watch branch. Files relating to the CDR document both the cooperation and tension between the two organizations, leading up to the termination of their affiliation in 1992. Of particular interest is the Religious Movement Resource Center file which provides a monthly record of hate group activity during 1993 and 1994.

Hate group files primarily document the activities of Ku Klux Klan and skinhead organizations. Some hate group files include letters to Walter Reeves addressed to his alias, Scott Daniels, or notes taken by Neighbor's Network members at infiltrated meetings. Many files show no evidence of Neighbor's Network involvement, and some files document groups located outside of the local monitoring area. Populist Party files are extensive and primarily consist of records documenting the backlash against efforts to remove the Confederate battle flag from the Georgia State Flag in the early 1990s.

Other subject files document prominent individuals such as David Irving, as well as other contemporary radical movements such as militias. There is no indication that Neighbor's Network actively monitored these groups.
