Subseries 3.3
Working files, 1968-2004
(bulk 1972-1990)
Boxes 1685-1726
Scope and Content Note
The subseries consists of working files created by Nunn's campaign staff from 1968-2004 (bulk 1972-1990), including correspondence, contact lists, and county files, as well as files pertaining to advertising and media, fundraising, polls, and other subjects. The bulk of the correspondence relates to outreach and fundraising. County files may contain statistical and demographic information; correspondence with local contacts; information about grants to local institutions; and information about the county campaign organization.
The 1972 campaign files also contain correspondence with notable people, including correspondence with Carl Vinson, Jimmy Carter, and other public figures. The subseries also includes speeches by Nunn during the 1972 campaign; speeches from Nunn's campaigns for reelection can be found in Subseries 6.1: Speech and event files. Of particular interest in the working files are the recollections by Hal Gulliver, former editor at the Atlanta Constitution, of the 1972 campaign, which he recorded in 2004.
Nunn’s staff moved political affairs files from Nunn’s Washington, D.C. office subject files (in file sets 1975-1977), and included them in the 1978 campaign files for reference during the 1978 campaign. See Subseries 9.2 for the remainder of the Washington, D.C. subject files.
Arrangement Note
Arranged by campaign year, then in alphabetical order.
Appraisal Note
