Scope and Content Note
The series consists of press relations files from 1864-1996 (bulk 1972-1996). Speeches include statements made on the Senate floor and in committee hearings, as well as writings such as newspaper articles that were prepared by the press office. The files also document speeches to civic groups, academic institutions, award receptions, charity events, commencements, roasts, town hall meetings, tributes, and dedications. Press releases include press releases by Nunn, other Senators, and Senate committees, as well as public statements by Nunn. Communication with constituents files consist of materials produced by the press office, including newsletters, newspaper columns, A Dialogue with Sam Nunn television program, and The Sam Nunn Report to Georgia television and radio program. Press coverage transcripts document Nunn's interviews and other appearances and statements to media including radio shows; television shows; press conferences; media stakeouts; newspaper and magazine articles; campaign advertisements for others; and public service announcements. Press Secretary files and Assistant Press Secretary files include subject files, correspondence, memoranda, and other press materials. Speechwriter files contain speech materials, personality files, and subject files. Political cartoons consist of some original drawings, including some signed by the artist, as well as prints and photocopies of political cartoons that comment on Nunn's political career. Clippings and press research files primarily consist of clippings about Nunn but may also contain press transcripts, statements, memoranda, and correspondence; the subseries also includes scrapbooks created by the press office that document Nunn's political career through clippings.
