Scope and Content Note

The series consists of administrative files from 1964-1997 (bulk 1973-1996). The administrative staff files include correspondence, memoranda, and subject files. Field Representative reports document the activities of Nunn’s Field Representatives in the Georgia offices and include travel schedules, activity reports, and local news items. Scheduling and trip files contain appointment books, calendars, meeting invitations, schedules, and trip files. The correspondence subseries includes nonfrankable mail, including courtesy letters such as thank yous, condolences, and congratulatory notes; political correspondence; and VIP mail. Guest books document visitors to Nunn’s Washington, D.C. office, including ambassadors, Georgia state officials, lobbyists, constituents, and others. The series also contains records management and archives files.

Organized into 6 subseries: (8.1) Administrative staff files , (8.2) Field Representative reports, (8.3) Scheduling and trip files, (8.4) Correspondence, (8.5) Guest books, and (8.6) Records management and archives files.

Appraisal Note

Archivists removed and shredded inventories of Nunn's papers and records documenting their shipment to Emory University. They also removed and shredeed 18 linear feet of personnel files containing personally identifiable information, which were maintained by Nunn's office as a separate file set.

Restrictions on Access

Special restrictions apply: The entire series is restricted by the donor. Personnel files containing confidential materials are restricted by the donor until 2047. Recommendation letters containing personally identifiable information are restricted until 2071.

Archivists refoldered material and clarified and standardized folder titles.
