Scope and Content Note

The series consists of subject files from Nunn’s Washington, D.C. office, Atlanta office, and Savannah office from 1910-1996 (bulk 1972-1996). The Washington, D.C. office subject files primarily contain constituent correspondence about legislative issues (issue mail) but also include constituent requests for assistance (casework); administrative records; public relations files; and research materials. The Atlanta office subject files include chronological subject file sets that primarily relate to constituent services, county reference files, and subject files on Georgia floods. The Savannah office subject files include subject files that primarily relate to constituent services, project files, and county reference files.

Organized into 3 subseries: (9.1) Washington, D.C. office subject files, (9.2) Atlanta office subject files, and (9.3) Savannah office subject files.

Appraisal Note

Archivists removed and shredded applications for positions in Nunn’s office; donor contact cards; and duplicate copies of the Washington, D.C. office subject files (1978 file set) on microfilm.

Restrictions on Access

Special restrictions apply: Constituent casework files with personally identifiable information in the Washington, D.C. office subject files are restricted until 2053. Constituent casework files with personally identifiable information in the Atlanta office subject files are restricted until 2055. Constituent casework files with personally identifiable information in the Savannah office subject files are restricted until 2061.

Processing Note

Archivists refoldered materials and clarified and standardized folder titles. Archivists reviewed all files for personally identifiable information. In order to expedite processing, in some instances entire files were restricted if personally identifiable information was likely to be found throughout the file.
