Scope and Content Note

Subseries 1.2 consists of the correspondence to Lizzie Oliver from family members, including 34 letters from Lizzie's parents, Shelton and Martha Oliver, which cover the period Lizzie lived with her sister Camilla (nicknamed Pinkie) and her time at school. Of notable interest is Martha Oliver's description of life at the Woodlawn plantation during the Civil War. Two other significant series of letters are from Lizzie's niece Emma O. Other family corespondents include Lizzie's cousin Janie Clark, Lizzie's sisters Lucy and Camilla, her niece Lizzie Pharr, and her husband Marcellus Willingham. Correspondence to Lizzie Oliver from friends and suitors include a series of letters signed "Annie," written in the 1860s, that detail Annie's life as a teacher in Florida and offer Annie's impressions of the Civil War. Other corespondents to Lizzie Oliver include A. A. Brynt, Ambrose [last name not given] H.C., Annie D.C., W. H. Crawford, Jr., Lizzie D. Wylie Duncan, J. N. Eberhart, C. J.
