Series 6
Legal files,
1989-2000
Boxes 54 - 56
Scope and Content Note
The series contains records related to the lawsuit brought by Philip Pavia against the Willem de Kooning estate in 1993. Pavia claimed that he had cast several sculptures for de Kooning, which the estate disputed. The case was revisited in 1998 due to questions concerning a violation of the settlement in 1993. The series contains numerous court documents documenting the evolution of the case, photographs of the sculptures in question, press clippings, Pavia's notes about the case, and correspondence, mostly with Pavia's lawyers.
