Scope and Content Note

The series contains general correspondence about business, personal, civic and social concerns. Letters are between Rich and friends, business associates, U.S. Army officials, and local and national political leaders. The correspondence dates from 1938 to 1975. A large section of the series is letters and cards Rich received during his illness in the winter of 1975 and his replies to the well-wishers, as well as condolences received following his death. Other topics include travels, the death of his wife Virginia, developments and changes in the city of Atlanta, and civic and family concerns. Correspondence between Rich and his children and about specific civic organizations can be found in Series 2, Subject Files. Correspondents include Robert W. Woodruff, William B. Hartsfield, Margaret Mitchell, Herman Talmadge, and Carl Sanders.
