Scope and Content Note
Created largely by Rich and his secretarial staff, the Subject Files contain correspondence, newsclippings, reports, organizational records, and other materials relating to specific persons, events, and subjects. Biographical information about Rich is included as is correspondence, clippings, and other papers about his wife and three children. Correspondence between Rich and his children during their teens and early twenties reveals his parental concern for their well-being.
Rich's activities in various civic and business groups figure prominently in the series. As chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Atlanta Arts Alliance from 1963 to 1969, he oversaw the fund-raising and development campaigns which resulted in the dedication-of Atlanta's Memorial Arts Center. Rich's membership on the Board of Trustees of Young Harris College, the Richard B. Russell Foundation, and the Atlanta Rotary Club and on the advisory board of St. Joseph's Infirmary are represented as is his participation with several other civic and charitable groups.
Additionally, there are correspondence and organizational records for the corporations that Rich served as a member of the board of directors, as well as for Rich's long relationship with the U.S. Army. Other topics include the Atlanta Falcons, the Atlanta Symphony, travels in the U.S. and Europe, and other department stores.
