Scope and Content Note

The Loula Kendall Rogers papers series contains materials related to Loula Kendall Rogers herself. The papers include journals (1855-1900), writings (1857-1930, no date), scrapbooks and notebooks (1855-1919) and personal papers (1852-1929, no date). Subseries 2.1, Journals, is arranged in chronological order. Some of the journals overlap in time and skip years. One folder in this box contains items removed from a journal. These journals detail events in her life and thoughts she expressed. Writings, Subseries 2.2, is divided into poetry and prose and arranged alphabetically within each grouping. If a title was not apparent, the first line of the writing has been used instead. The writings are in the form of manuscripts, typescripts, and some clippings and published items. Subjects are mainly of a religious, patriotic, or family theme. Scrapbooks and notebooks, Subseries 2.3, contains scrapbooks which included some of Loula Kendall Rogers's published writings and writings of others, a friendship album, and a notebook containing prices of goods and an inventory of clothes. The final subseries, Personal papers, includes instructions upon her death written by Loula Kendall Rogers, biographical information, school notebooks, financial records, and programs. Also found in this subseries are materials related to her involvement in the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy including programs, minutes, and scrapbooks and materials related to Wesleyan Female College in the form of her diploma (OP 1), catalogues, programs, and an obituary from the Wesleyan Alumnae. The final items in this subseries are the record book from the Women's Shakespeare Club and Literary Club of Barnesville and miscellaneous fabric swatches.
