Scope and Content Note

The James Henry Rogers papers include business papers (1863-1875, no date) and personal papers (1862-1874). Subseries 3.1, Business papers, is arranged in chronological order and includes correspondence, ledger sheets, receipts, and cotton price information. These papers document various business undertakings by Henry Rogers including his cotton factoring and fertilizer business, Rogers and Cheney (circa 1873-1875), of which not much is known. The ledger sheets and receipts give insight into both the costs of food and other products and shipping charges for this time period. Personal papers, Subseries 3.2, includes journals kept by Henry Rogers during 1862, a transcription of another journal transcribed by his daughter, Helen Graham Rogers Franklin, a household account book, a commission certificate for the Grand Council of Georgia United Friends of Temperance, and a drawing of his cemetery marker.
