Scope and Content Note

Rushdie has completed or planned adaptations for the stage and screen of many of his novels, and the scripts for those projects are included in this subseries. A large portion of the subseries consists of numerous versions of the script for the film version of Midnight's Children; also present are proposals for a documentary on Harold Shapinsky, a documentary project on Kashmir, script proposals for Shame and The Ground Beneath Her Feet, as well as two plays, Crosstalk and The Exorcist.

Additional drafts and notes for the Midnight's Children, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, and The Courter play scripts can be found in the digital files. A detailed list of the files is available by accessing the searchable database and emulated environment on the researcher workstation in the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (the Rose Library) reading room.

Arranged alphabetically; multiple drafts are arranged chronologically by draft where possible.

Terms Governing Use and Reproduction

The use of personal cameras is not allowed. Researchers are not permitted to copy or download any digital files or applications from the emulated environment or the searchable database on the computer workstation.

Restrictions on Access

Access to digital files is only available in the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (the Rose Library).
