Subseries 2.4
Other writings,
1964-2002
Boxes 61-65; OP9-13
Scope and Content Note
This subseries contains all additional writings by Rushdie within the collection; it includes his commencement addresses, interviews, introductions, lectures, letters to the editor, opinion pieces, lyrics, poems, press statements, school papers, reviews, and speeches, from 1964-2002. Of particular note are the various press statements and letters written by Rushdie during the fatwa, many of which are present in multiple drafts. Also of interest is an early school essay written by Rushdie for the Queen's Medal in 1964. Finally, a large portion of the subseries consists of reviews written by Rushdie; amongst the reviews are evaluations of works by Margaret Atwood, Italo Calvino, Stephen Hawking, Michael Ignatieff, Thomas Pynchon, Edward Said, and Kurt Vonnegut.
Additional drafts and notes for Rushdie's newspaper columns, particularly those he wrote for the New York Times Syndicate in 1998, letters to the editor, and other writings can be found in the digital files. A detailed list of the files is available by accessing the searchable database and emulated environment on the researcher workstation in the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (the Rose Library) reading room.
Arrangement Note
Arranged by record type, then alphabetically. Interviews are arranged in chronological order.
