Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a variety of Salman Rushdie's personal papers, including his financial records, legal papers, other papers of a personal nature, and family papers. Unrestricted legal papers consist of several court proceedings in which Rushdie was involved, many concerning the sale and distribution of his novel The Satanic Verses after the fatwa was issued. Unrestricted personal papers include drawings by Rushdie, such as his rendering of Bombay and northern India, certificates and awards, membership cards, ticket stubs, and other notes and lists compiled by Rushdie.

Organized into four subseries: (5.1) Financial records, (5.2) Legal papers, (5.3) Other personal papers, and (5.4) Family papers.
Restrictions on Access
Subseries 5.1: Financial records and 5.4: Family papers are closed to researchers. Selected portions of Subseries 5.2: Legal papers and 5.3: personal papers are also closed.
