Series 1
Administrative records, 1985-1996
Boxes 1-27

Scope and Content Note

The series consists of the administrative records of the Southeastern Arts, Media and Education Project (SAME) and includes financial records, meeting minutes, internal communications and mailings, membership records, the records of the gay and lesbian journal Amethyst , production files for plays produced by the organization, and event files. Amethyst files document the production and publication of the journal and contain article and literary submissions, author correspondence, and distributor information. Play production files contain scripts, promotional material, correspondence, photographs, and planning records. The files document the performance of Rebecca Ranson’s For Love and For Life, Terrence McNally’s The Lisbon Traviata, and Robert Chesley’s Jerker, among many others. Event files include planning documents relating to the Arts for Pride festival, the Out On Film festival, and prior iterations of Atlanta’s gay and lesbian film festival. In addition to the Out On Film festival’s records, materials from other gay and lesbian film festivals around the country are present in the series.

Financial records in the series include tax documents and cancelled checks, membership and contact lists, and grant applications to organizations such as the Fulton County Arts Council and the Fund for Southern Communities. The series also contains records relating to the "Gay America Loves You" billboard project. T-shirts from SAME projects such as Out-Proud Theater and Network Q are also present.
