Scope and Content Note

The series consists of subject files, reports, and communication materials from 1972-1987. Communication materials are primarily correspondence between organizations such as the Druid Hills Civic Association, CAUTION, Inc, the Department of Transportation, and the Council on Environmental Quality, but also include memoranda and handwritten notes directed to individuals. Subject files consist primarily of research, correspondence, and printed materials compiled by members of the opposition, especially Phyllis Schwartz, and include such topics as alternative plans, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, The Great Park, the U.S. (USDOT) and Georgia Departments of Transportation (GDOT), The Olmstead Linear parks, and traffic statistics. Also included are reports regarding the construction of the roadway, especially the United States Department of Transportation Environmental Impact Statements and oppositional responses to it, recommendations for historical preservation, and reports created by CAUTION, Inc. against the development of the area. There are also reports on urban research, land analysis, and road and traffic standards.
