Biographical Note
Stoney Cooks was appointed Executive Director following Jack O'Dell. Prior to assuming this role, he served as Coordinator of Student Affairs, and Assistant to the Executive Vice President. Cooks resigned from SCLC in September 1972.
Scope and Content Note
The subseries consists of the files of Stoney Cooks from 1965-1972. Correspondence, memoranda, financial records and subject files document Cooks' work as Executive Director, as well as his previous experience as Coordinator of Student Affairs and Assistant to the Executive Vice President. Of particular interest are files relating to Cooks' involvement with the National Council to Repeal the Draft and the Viet-American Children's Program, an SCLC-led project to facilitate adoptions of Vietnamese children fathered by American servicemen.
