Scope and Content Note

The series consists of sound recordings and video recordings of Southall and others from 1903-1997. The bulk of the sound recordings are of African American composers and musicians. The series also includes recordings of cultural events at the University of Michigan, Dillard University and University of Minnesota. The video recordings primarily consist of events sponsored by the National Association of Negro Musicians and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
