Series 1
Interview transcripts, 1956-1997
Boxes 1 - 14

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of transcripts of interviews conducted by the Southern Regional Council and transcripts of interviews gathered from other repositories. The staff of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" used these transcripts to assemble scripts for the individual episodes. There is also other research material in some of these files, including biographical information about interviewees as well as newspaper clippings. For example, there is a Central Atlanta Progress publication "The 'Sweet Auburn Avenue' Business History, 1900-1988, as Told by W.L. Calloway" in the folder with W.L. Calloway's transcript. Folders in the Montgomery subseries harbor a copy of "Dr. E.D. Nixon, Father of the Modern Civil Rights Movement: 'A Forgotten Hero'" published by the Alabama Historical Commission, a copy of the letter Jo Ann Robinson sent to Montgomery Mayor W.A. Gayle, threatening a bus boycott over a year before Rosa Parks was arrested, and a copy of the City of Montgomery Police Department's original complaint against Rosa Parks.

Arrangement Note

Organized into six subseries: (1.1) Atlanta, Georgia, (1.2) Columbia, South Carolina, (1.3) Jackson, Mississippi, (1.4) Little Rock, Arkansas, (1.5) Montgomery, Alabama, and (1.6) Miscellaneous Interviews.
