Scope and Content Note

This series includes two types of research files: archival and general. The Archival Repository Research Files contains correspondence with repositories, inventories of collections, summaries of individual collections at repositories, and licensing/use agreements. The producer and production assistants combed through archives throughout the country, searching for oral history interviews, documentaries as well as television and radio news accounts that would help them tell the story. The General Research Files are contextual historical materials they gathered about each city, the South, and the civil rights movement in general. This subseries contains chronologies, notes, newspaper clippings, photocopies of articles, excerpts from books, biographical sketches, maps of the five cities, guides to the cities, lists of interviews, and schedules of interviews as well as bibliographies for each city.

Arrangement Note

Organized into two subseries: (4.1) Archival repository research files and (4.2) General research files.
