Scope and Content Note

The series consists of audiovisual material including sound and video recordings of John Stone from 1951-2007. The sound recordings contain readings by Stone of his own work such as In the Country of Hearts and Music from Apartment 8. There are also poetry readings from John Ciardi and Williams Carlos Williams. The sound recordings also include interviews of Stone with National Public Radio and Soundings; speeches at Emory University School of Medicine; and musical projects with Stone, William Ransom, and Samuel Jones. The video recordings include promotional tapes for In The Country of Hearts, lectures, readings, and interviews by Stone with the Association of American Medical College and CBS Sunday Morning News. The video recordings also contain informational medical tapes about anatomy, emergency medical services, and the integration of the humanities with medicine.
