Biographical Note

Willis Anderson Sutton, educator and administrator, was born November 19, 1879 and died in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1960. Sutton served as superintendent of the Atlanta public schools (1921-1943); executive officer of the Georgia Education Association (1944); guest lecturer for Readers' Digest (1944-1954); and an independent lecturer until about a year and a half before his death.

Scope and Content Note

The collection primarily consists of nineteen scrapbooks, September 1924-December 1943. Consisting primarily of clippings collected from Georgia newspapers by a clipping service, the scrapbooks document Willis Anderson Sutton's career as superintendent of the Atlanta public schools. A few items of correspondence from colleagues and associates and printed material are also included. There is one additional folder of printed material and form letters by and about Sutton.
