Biographical Note

Edna Thomas (1885-1974) was a singer who primarily performed African American spirituals. Known as "the Lady of Louisiana," she toured both nationally and internationally. Thomas may also have worked as an actress in New York in the latter half of her career (for more information, consult the collection file located in the Rose Library).

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains letters written to Edna Thomas from 1924-1935. The letters are mostly from admirers and friends in Australia and discuss concerts, books, Thomas's finances, and her tours. The collection also contains an undated newspaper clipping about Thomas while she was touring in London.
