Series 1
Correspondence, 1936-2013
Boxes 1 - 10

Scope and Content Note

The series includes the correspondence written by and to both Margaret and Randolph Thrower. The bulk of the collection is the correspondence between Randolph and Margaret, particularly during Randolph’s military service during World War II, 1938-1945. Most of these handwritten letters have a typed transcript attached to them. The correspondence of Randolph Thrower as the head of the IRS also represents a significant part of the series, 1969-1970. Within this IRS correspondence are letters discussing the revocation of the tax-exempt status of private and religious schools whose admission policies were deemed discriminatory. The correspondence from 1998 onward consists mostly of printed emails. Correspondence is also found throughout the collection with materials originally organized by the Throwers.
