Biographical Note

Bettie Tindall, of Fayette, Missouri, married Frank Dodd, a United States soldier, sometime after 1866. Frank Dodd was stationed at military posts in the Western states including Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley, Kansas, and at posts in Nebraska, Colorado, and Nevada Territories, and Fort Laramie, Dakota Territory from 1860-1866.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the papers of Bettie Tindall from 1860-1903. The majority of the papers are correspondence between Bettie Tindall and Frank Dodd. The letters discuss life in Missouri during the Civil War, conflicting loyalties in the border states during the war, and army life in the Western territories after the war. The collection also includes a few undated manuscripts and several miscellaneous typescripts.
