Scope and Content Note

The series consists of papers relating to the non-book writings of Bell Irvin Wiley from ca. 1934-1979. The papers include correspondence; articles which appeared in journals and periodicals; introductions, prefaces, bibliographies, and epilogues which were published as parts of books; lectures and speeches; and reviews. The papers also consist of miscellaneous writings including short stories, essays, and papers; and the notes and research materials relating to the writings. The majority of the non-book writings, published while Wiley was professor of history at Emory University (Atlanta, Ga.), pertain to matters relating to the Civil War, Confederate exiles in Brazil, and Confederate Congressmen.
