Subseries 6.2
Christmas cards,
1924-1984
Boxes 437-438
Scope and Content Note
This subseries contains the Christmas cards that Robert W. Woodruff and his wife, Nell Hodgson Woodruff, sent to friends and family each year. After a series of rather plain cards, Woodruff incorporated Ichauway Plantation into his holiday greeting after he purchased the property in 1929. In 1941, Woodruff, an avid outdoorsman, commissioned the artist Athos Menaboni to paint a picture of doves for his house at Ichauway Plantation. Woodruff liked the painting so much he had it printed as his Christmas card. The next year and each year after until Woodruff's death, Menaboni painted a portrait of a bird native to Ichauway or TE Ranch which was then printed as a card.
