Collection Description

Biographical Note

Arminius Wright, Methodist minister, was born in Columbia County, Georgia, March 4, 1829, and died in Columbus, Georgia, June 18, 1879. He was granted a license to preach in 1845; was admitted on trial as an itinerant minister in 1846; and served churches throughout the North and South Georgia Conferences of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He was married twice and was the father of nine children.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the papers of Arminius Wright from 1845-1900. The papers include sermons, sermon notes and outlines, personal and family account books, photographs, notebooks, clippings, correspondence, scrapbooks, and minutes. Sermons, sermon notes and outlines, and notebooks are from Wright's work as a Methodist minister; account books belonged to Wright and his wife; scrapbooks contain personal and family correspondence, clippings, and writings. Also included are a photograph of Lovick Pierce, listings of church members and collections, and the minutes from the South Georgia Conference of 1877.
