Scope and Content Note

The politics audio recordings series consists recorded debates, campaign speeches, and interviews with politicians from the municipal level to the federal level of the government. These include prominent Georgia politicians, such as Mayor (Atlanta) Ivan Allen, Governor George Busbee, Governor and later President Jimmy Carter, Representative (5th District) Wyche Fowler, Mayor (Atlanta) Maynard Jackson, Governor Lester Maddox, Mayor (Atlanta) Sam Massell, Senator Richard B. Russell, Governor Carl Sanders, Senator Herman Talmadge, and Mayor (Atlanta) Andrew Young. Many of these politicians were also interviewed as part of the Merry Go Round morning show (see also Series 1: Merry Go Round audio recordings). Other politicians represented include President Gerald Ford, President Lyndon B. Johnson, President John F. Kennedy, President Richard Nixon, and President Ronald Reagan. There are also programs on Affirmation Vietnam, democracy, and the Democratic National Convention.
